The North Sea near Chapel St Leonards

Another day being tourists and exploring, this time north along the coast and making sure we took roads that we haven’t been on before.

The first stop was at Chapel St Leonards, at a store called Yabba Dabbo Doo which was recommended by Steve. It was a very large reasonable quality $2 shop and well worth a visit, picking up some more bits and pieces for the van.

We continued up the coast and drove down a few lanes to get to the sea…and yes Vicki, I did dip my toes into the North Sea and although not wanting to swim, I was surprised that it wasn’t too cold. The whole coast is lined with Wind Farms and we suspect it is the relatively shallow waters that make them practical to build. It was really nice enjoying the sea air with hardly anyone about.

While we were standing there a couple of guys fishing from the beach caught a small shark. Had quite a chat to them, especially as one of the guys was into photography and we ended up discussing cameras and lenses.. surprise, surprise!!!. They were from London and were just up for the weekend. They released the shark but were highly chuffed to have caught it.

The small town of Sutton on Sea was quite surprising as not nearly as busy as the other holiday towns, and no sign of all the amusements. We found a really good hardware and camping store and picked up our outdoor chairs, so can tick those off the list.

Next stop was the estuary in Saltfleet and had a rather late picnic lunch I had put together. Quite an interesting spot with a number of small fishing boats sitting on the mud waiting for the tide to come in.

We continued north to Wragholme along the smaller country roads taking us through numerous small villages before looping around to Louth, a rather lovely market town which was pretty busy. Back home late afternoon after another good day, making “lemonade out of lemons” as we wait for the papers to come through for the van.
