Skegness Beach - waiting for the holidaymakers.
The windfarm is on the horizon.

Had a wonderful night’s sleep and woke feeling very refreshed. Blue sky morning and although we had planned to explore the village ended up having a look around Skegness, first stop was the beach and the pier. There were very few people on the beach and the sand was pristine after an overnight groom. Really enjoyed wandering along with the sea breeze in our faces, looking across to Europe. There is a huge windfarm offshore, Ian counted well over 100 towers and read that it was completed in 2013. Seems such a good idea to utilise free energy although can hardly imagine the logistics of building it.
Went for a wander through the town which really is a slice of life, full of amusement arcades, souvenirs, food stalls and fun rides, all there for the holiday makers who flock here for their summer holidays.
We are on a mission kitting out the van and called in to some caravan supply places and hardware stores and picked up quite a few things. After a bite to eat decided to head to an outlet place at Spalding to check out camping equipment. Really enjoying driving around the countryside and managing surprisingly well thanks to our new GPS ….can’t possibly imagine travelling without one. No wrong turns and no arguments!
Late this afternoon we wandered down to the village, checked out the local store and then had the hard job of choosing which of the five pubs in the village we would stop at for a drink. Ended up at The Guest House and we had a small sample of the three local beers on tap. Really enjoyed a pint of the Doombar.  Something rather special about being able to just walk home afterwards. It’s been another good day.

Looks like you are having a wonderful time already! That English countryside and villages are hard to beat. Have just returned from our South American adventure so now can follow your European travels. Had a great trip but pleased to be home even though the weather is shite! Happy travels, the Coxes.

Good to hear things are falling into place with all the van arrangements.English countryside looking very peaceful despite the turmoil in their politics! Have you managed to catch up with Lars about when you might be there?

Love your photos of Skegness. My cousin and his family live there and I visited in 1988 so it brought back lovely memories. He used to manage one of the big cafes there. Anne
